Benjamin Nugent is an American writer, best known for the book American Nerd: The Story of My People.[1]
Nugent grew up in Amherst, Massachusetts. He was the original keyboardist for The Cloud Room, an indie rock band based in Brooklyn, New York. Nugent began his literary career as a reporter for Time magazine, writing mostly about music.
Nugent's short story "Ollie the Owl" was published in the Winter 2009 issue of Tin House, and The L Magazine included his story "The Rugby Witch" in their summer 2010 fiction issue. His essay "Security," about authors and money, appeared in Bookmark Now, a collection of work by young writers on writing. Nugent has also written pieces for New York Times Magazine, New York Magazine, Good Magazine and n+1.
Nugent currently lives in Iowa City.
